Maui - October 2009

When:
October 24, 2009 to October 28, 2009

Katie and I took a vacation to Maui, Hawaii at the end of October in 2009. For this vacation, we really have to thank the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG), which had their annual scientific conference in Honolulu this year. Katie, who studies human genetics, was eager to go the conference for both the scientific and scenic value. She submitted her abstract, and was rewarded with a talk! Anyway, once it was clear that Katie was going to Hawaii, it only made sense for me to come along and make it a vacation.

Washington, DC - November 2010

When:
October 30, 2010 to November 6, 2010

At the end of October, we took our first family trip with Penelope. I was going to do a write up about it, but Katie beat me to it with a post in her blog. I wanted to include some of the photo highlights, so I've copied most of her post and added some of my own thoughts and photos.

Olympic National Park - May 2011

When:
May 28, 2011 to May 30, 2011

For Memorial Day weekend, Katie and I took Penelope on her first camping trip. We went to Olympic National Park, which we had been wanting to visit for a long time. Camping with a baby definitely takes camping to a whole new level. While we had a lot of fun, it was also a lot of work to keep Penelope safe and entertained. Overall, she seemed to really enjoy herself, although I don't think she really appreciated her surroundings all that much.

Kauai - November 2011

When:
November 24, 2011 to December 1, 2011

For Thanksgiving this year, Katie and I decided to take Penelope on a vacation to Hawaii. We had been wanting to go back ever since we visited Maui a few years ago, and the Thanksgiving break seemed like a good time to get away from the cold and rain of Seattle. We were very happy that Omi and Abuelito (aka, Jason's parents) were able to join us, and not just because we wanted some babysitters (although that was a big help!).

Alaska RV Adventure - June 2012

When:
June 9, 2012 to June 17, 2012

As I recently mentioned in a blog post, we went to Alaska a week ago for a vacation. Katie has never been, and we wanted to be sure to go while we are still in Seattle and relatively close. For this trip, we decided to try renting an RV, since it seemed like the best way to be able to get around and see lots of different things without having to a) find lodging each night or b) pitch a tent each night. We liked the idea of the convenience of having everything with you all the time and not having to pack and unpack every day as we moved around.

Glacier National Park - August 2013

When:
August 27, 2013 to August 31, 2013

I've been meaning to post about our trip to Glacier National Park, but with our upcoming move, I got a bit behind. It was a really fun vacation. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring along my travel journal, so I'm going to try to remember all the stuff that we did.
